The Savoy Theatre, Monmouth, Wales.

The Savoy stands on the oldest working theatre site in Wales. I have to declare some self-interest here as this is the theatre that my dad proudly runs with the Savoy Theatre Trust. Welsh Theatre of the year 2019 no less. You can read a very comprehensive history here. From a personal point of view, this theatre is joy. The rich vibrant colours are instantly impactful but for me, it’s the backstage details that bring the history and character to the fore. Ticket machines, the projector, the clock from ‘Crocodile Dunnie 2’. All these little inconsequential touches bring out the humanity and history of a building that has hosted nearly 100 years of comedy and tragedy.
